An incredible large Wabar impactite with white insta-rock interior that ranges from mostly a chalky appearance to a couple of locations where its texture is glossy and vesicular, surrounded by a matte black, and somewhat lumpy, shell. The black exterior envelopes one large face and wraps around the sides to encroach on the reverse large face. This piece is a fascinating study in the textural and visual differences in the two principal materials of Wabar impactite.
This large Wabar impactite individual measures 79 mm x 46 mm x 30 mm and weighs 28.8 grams!

Wabar material from the famed meteorite impact in the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) in southern Saudi Arabia. Three craters have been documented though very little material has come out of this site, and now the craters are covered over by the ever-shifting sand dunes. These pieces came from a collection that has been in storage for about 20 years; an American working in Saudi Arabia for 30 years visited the craters 3 times in the 1990s, bringing back to the States some material. This is what remains of his collection.
