A vial containing 1.0 gram of rare impactite spheroids from Meteor Crater in Arizona; the world's best preserved meteorite impact crater. This material has a H.H. Nininger provenance.
The spheroids from Meteor Crater formed as the impact vapor cloud was cooling. Metal (nickle and iron), along with some other minerals formed into these tiny spheroids, which rained down around Meteor Crater. They are strongly attracted to a magnet.
There is some great information about the composition of these spheroids in this article, Metallic Spheroids From Meteor Crater, Arizona by Mead, Littler and Chao.
The vial will contain 1.0 gram of Canyon Diablo (Meteor Crater) impactite spheroid material. The vial measures 38 x 12 mm. Most of the pieces are only 1 to 3 mm at the widest.
